The Back Story
So how did I find the fire truck???? Back in the day we had a news paper that came out on every Thursday people would actually wake up extra early to get a copy before anyone else. It was called the Bargain News and you could find just about anything you wanted to buy in it from house hold goods to cars and everything in between the bargain news had it. At one point they started a antique car section, which I would go through on a weekly basis. You never know what you would find. A friend of mine gave me a call one early Thursday morning and wanted to know if I read through the antique section, I said no (there was nothing in there that would interest me) he quickly informed me there was an ad for a Crosley fire truck the guy must have put it in the wrong section. He gave me his number I thanked him and we hung up. I thought to myself its probably just something homemade seeing as how rear it would be if it were real, but I should check it out. I Called the gentleman and asked where he was located and if I could come take a look. It turns out he was only a few towns over! I ran to the bank, grab some money and was on my way. I arrived at the location and met the gentleman. I asked him where the fire truck came from .He explain to me that his brother was a professional clown and was traveling through Kentucky performing when he happed to find it for sale. He then opens the garage door and my jaw dropped. There was the front half of a 5th wheel fire truck. It was taken apart with the motor sitting on a bench next to it. He continued his story about how his brother dragged it all the way back home. He put the truck part of the fire truck in the bed of his pickup truck, and towed the trailer behind it. He was going to restore it but became sick and that was as far as he had gotten before he passed away. I did not see the trailer part and asked if he had that? He said he did and to follow him. As we started to walk on the other side of the garage, he told me “The damn thing takes up to much space and I just want it out.” We rounded a corner and there it was. I quickly made a deal and was happy to get it out of his way. That was 10 years ago. In that 10 years I would roll the fire truck in to start restoring it and then something always seem to come up and get in its way (Crosley pickup truck, Super Sport , Sedan Convertible and customer cars to name a few. So it got rolled back out and put on the back burner. This time it is not getting rolled out till it is finished!!!!!
